The science of energy, the craft of the seal.

An in-depth onboarding programme for the WTC Energy-Based Devices division — electrosurgery fundamentals, the Valleylab™ generator family (Force FX-8, FT10, LS10 and the VLFTLSGEN LigaSure platform), LigaSure™ vessel sealing, cordless ultrasonic dissection (Sonicision™ 7), the full instrument portfolio, clinical applications by specialty, and competitive positioning — closing with a locked, timed certification exam.

Curriculum

Energy, end to end.

Each module builds from first principles to field practice — how the energy works, which device for which tissue, how to position against the competition, and how to set up and troubleshoot in theatre. Click to open; mark complete when done. The certification exam unlocks only after every module is complete.

Final

Certification exam.

A locked, timed examination. Twenty questions drawn at random from a 70-question bank, timed per question (longer for case scenarios), no going back. Read the rules carefully before you begin — once started, leaving the page ends the attempt.

Reference§

Quick glossary.

The terms that come up most in the field. Skim before a surgeon visit; this section is always open and is not part of the graded curriculum.

Current density
Current concentrated per unit area. High at a fine tip (cuts), low at a broad pad (safe). The single idea behind every effect.
Duty cycle
Fraction of time the waveform is "on." Cut ≈ 100% (continuous); Coag ≈ 6% (interrupted bursts).
Monopolar / Bipolar
Monopolar current passes through the patient to a return pad; bipolar current stays between the two jaws (no pad).
Advanced bipolar
Bipolar energy plus precise pressure and a feedback algorithm to fuse a permanent seal — i.e. LigaSure™.
Ultrasonic
Energy delivered as mechanical blade vibration; friction cuts and coagulates. Sonicision™ 7 is the cordless ultrasonic device.
TissueFect™
FT10 closed-loop tissue sensing (~434,000×/sec) that adjusts output in real time for consistent, fast seals.
REM™ / PolyHesive™
Return Electrode Monitoring with a split (dual-section) pad; the generator stops output if contact quality degrades.
Thermal spread
Heat travelling beyond the jaws into nearby tissue — the safety concern near nerve, ureter, bowel, great vessels.
Capacitive coupling
Monopolar energy transferring through intact insulation to a nearby conductor — a laparoscopic risk.
Smart Connectors
FT10 plug-and-play recognition of LigaSure™ devices that auto-loads the correct energy settings.
VLFTLSGEN
FT10 hardware shipped LigaSure-only; monopolar/bipolar ports present and unlockable later (paid).
Residual heat
Ultrasonic blades stay hot briefly after activation — the key handling awareness for any ultrasonic device.
